Sonora Research Station Hunting

Sonora Topographical MapThe Texas A&M AgriLife Research Station is an approximately 3,400 acre property located in  Edwards/Sutton counties, Texas about 28- miles south of  Sonora on state hwy. 55.  Amenities for hunting include:

  1. Large pavilion with restroom facilities.
  2. Housing for hunters.
  3. Cook house with cooking facilities and other kitchen appliances with sleeping quarters and bath.
  4. 23-enclosed hunting blinds with 24-sling corn feeders.

This property is operated by Texas A&M AgriLife Research as a field laboratory to conduct rangeland, livestock and wildlife research that may take priority over hunting operations. There will be restrictions on dates that hunting will be allowed, to be negotiated annually.  The successful bidder will be required to work closely with research scientists to manage and harvest wildlife to meet goals and objectives of research projects. The successful bidder will be required to meet all AgriLife Research priorities and harvest recommendations as well as conduct three spotlight surveys annually, collect and submit harvest records including age, sex, field dressed weight and gross Boone and Crockett scores of all deer. Depending on research needs other harvest data may be required.  In addition to the lease price the successful bidder will be required to maintain all hunting facilities, including maintenance of feeders, deer blinds, and responsible for cleaning sleeping quarters and restroom facilities pre and post hunting.   The minimum bid for this lease is $20,400/yr and final price will be determined by open cry auction on March 19, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Research Station. A deposit of 10% of the final auction price will be required at the close of the auction with the balance due as specified in the terms of the lease contract once that document is completed. Term of the lease will be 5 years with an option to renew for an additional five year lease. Bidders must be present to bid.

Outfitter Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability conducting hunting operation under a TPWD Level III MLDP.
  • $1,000,000 liability policy.
  • References from previous lessors of hunting properties the bidder has managed.
