Dr. Kasner’s research focuses on wildlife ecology and management in semi-arid and arid rangelands in energy-dominated landscapes; grazing system-fire-wildlife interactions; managing and/or restoring rangeland systems to benefit wildlife conservation within renewable energy production areas in relation to industry needs and state and federal policy; and emerging challenges and opportunities for wildlife conservation and management related to regenerative agriculture/carbon sequestration.
He is also interested in facilitating wildlife conservation and management efforts by landowners with small acreages, including opportunities for cooperative management and ecotourism, and educating landowners on the feasibility of true conservation impact on small properties.
Much of Dr. Kasner’s research has previously focused on ecology and conservation of birds and reptiles, with future research also to include other game and non-game wildlife species in West Texas rangelands.
